Australia Updates Training Visa (Subclass 407) Rules – Effective 11 March 2026
The Australian Government has introduced important changes to the Training Visa (Subclass 407) application process. These updates aim to ensure that the visa program is used strictly for genuine skills development.
🔑 What Has Changed?
From 11 March 2026, new applicants must meet these conditions before lodging a visa application:
- The sponsor must be approved as a Temporary Activities Sponsor
- The sponsor must have an approved Training Visa Nomination for the applicant
(Exception: Commonwealth agencies)
Previously, applicants could submit their visa application at the same time as sponsorship and nomination requests. Now, this is no longer allowed.
⚠️ Important Note
If you apply for a Training Visa without approved sponsorship and nomination, your application will:
- Be considered invalid
- Be rejected by the department
- Have the visa fee refunded
📌 What This Means for You
If you are planning to apply for a Subclass 407 visa:
- You must wait until your sponsor is fully approved
- Your training nomination must also be approved first
- Plan your application well in advance of your training start date
🛂 For Applicants Inside Australia
- You must hold a valid visa while waiting
- You will only get a Bridging Visa after submitting a valid application
- If delays occur, you may need to:
- Leave Australia, or
- Apply for another visa temporarily
